Dan started off right here at Mangawhai Meat Shop in 2002 training under Alistair Cooper, Pat Quin & John Stot
Once he finished his apprenticeship the opportunity came up for his parents Wendy & Rob to buy the shop. Dan managed the shop with his parents for 2 years before setting off on his OE.
In the 5 years that he was away Dan gained a lot of experience at boutique butcheries. He started off in London working at Randall’s on Wandsworth Bridge Rd. London is also where he met his wife Ange. After their time in London they moved to Melbourne for 3 years and Dan managed King Island Meatworks in Brighton.
Feeling ready to move back to NZ, Wendy & Rob had put the idea out there that Dan & Ange could move back to Mangawhai and buy the shop from them so they could move onto other things. They decided to go for it, and here we are running the shop since 2012.
since owning the shop Dan has won numerous awards for his specialist Sausages including
winning best sausage in new Zealand 2016 & he also came runner up in 2016 new Zealand butcher of the year.
